Starting at Telok Ayer we discuss the long and arduous journey that our Grandfathers made to Singapore. We visit the temple where thanks was made for a safe arrival.
From there we traverse the back streets learning more about how life was back in those early days. We delve deeper into the culture and customs that our Grandfathers brought to Singapore.
Throughout our journey we will stop to eat. Food is deeply connected to Chinatown’s culture and to its people. We will visit a third-generation Cantonese fish soup restaurant with a Bib Gourmand award. An old school family run dessert shop serving up delicious bean and seed ‘soups’ made with a stone grinder and a third generation bakery specialising in hand made pastries.
In addition we will learn more about tea, China’s most famous export, and Singapores role in the introduction of tea to the western world. We will visit a beautiful tea house for a traditional tea tasting experience, learn the art of the tea ceremony and try the Imperial Tea that Queen Elizabeth II was served in the very same teahouse.
This tour will give you a deep dive into our Chinese history and culture. It has been designed around the stories of the people (and their families) who came to Singapore and made it their home.
